Just going to put my own bits in here after seeing your last post, and maybe putting a bit of another perspective that may put some clarity, or at least an alternative line of thought to follow.įirstly going to touch on the "The game as originally developed had a neutral hand model that didn't set any gender for the player", while this is a fair point, the story has used the name beatrix since before the Hobson notes and Casey's starmail were really added. I don't think the game is trying to be nefarious, nor has it hijacked an existing franchise to do this, but it seems plain that the developers certainly made the conscious decision to promote this kind of social position through their game and to defend that choice via control of the subsequent discussions about the game. People who bring this up seem to be having their complaints locked and then deleted to hide this displeasure in order to further the idea that this isn't controversial or unwelcome in the game and to further promote "diversity and inclusion". a fun, light hearted game that didn't appear to need any of that added "progressive" stuff promoting social diversity and inclusion etc. Some people aren't happy about being forced to play as a "black girl", and forced to participate in some long distance seemingly lesbian relationship in a game that seemed like it should have been about *you* playing as a slime rancher. The game as originally developed had a neutral hand model that didn't set any gender for the player, and this was changed to a dark skinned girl during development, then the gender ambiguous "Casey" and the romance was added later, etc. ![]() so that the player can play it as a same sex relationship if they choose. but with pink hair, feminine ear piercings, etc. and more to the point, that they force a romantic relationship between the main character and another character who the developers intentionally made gender ambiguous and don't show you the front of. I'll try to keep this as unoffensive as possible and just answer you neutrally.īasically it's things like making the characters be a diverse range of races, sexes, ages, etc.
